Sam Shaffer
Owner and operator of Shaffer's Auto Body
Back: Sam Shaffer, Front (left to right) daughter McKenzie Shaffer and son Luke Shaffer.
Sam was born and raised in Ames by Robert Shaffer and Marry Ann Barnes, both of Ames. Sam is a 1978 graduate of Ames High School. Following high school, his interest in cars took him to Iowa Lakes Community College where he graduated from the Auto Collision Repair Program in the fall of 1979. After establishing a small business loan and renting a small building on South Duff, Sam opened his doors for business September 1979 with just two employees. By 1981, Sam relocated his business to East Lincoln Way, where he is currently located. At that time a new facility was built measuring 6,400 square feet. Over the last 23 years in business, he has added on to the original building six times, which brings the facility up to 40,000 square feet of space. Shaffer's Auto Body now has 23 employees, 5 paint booths, 4 frame machines, a computerized wheel alignment machine, 2 full-time mechanics and over 35 loaner cars to serve the nearly 200 customers per month. Sam loves what he is doing! He takes pride in serving Ames and nearby communities, and he continues to provide them with quality service in collision repair. Some of Sam's hobbies have included boating and camping when he and his family weren't traveling the country professionaly racing a 200mph hydro plane and helping other racing teams competing on the curcuit.
In loving memory of DeAnn Shaffer |
